Dr. John and The Lower 911

The rich gumbo of New Orleans music runs long and deep, but nobody represents the vibrant scene better than Mac Rebennack, better known as the Dr. John. He’s spent the last 40 years stirring New Orleans R&B, swamp rock, blues and Mardi Gras gris gris into his own brand of voodoo music.

A multi-Grammy winner, the kind Dr. earned high praise for his most recent CD, “N’Awlinz: Dis, Dat or D’udda,” on the Blue Note label. It’s his tribute to the music of the Crescent City, featuring Earl Palmer, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Willie Tee, Nicholas Payton, B.B. King, Mavis Staples and Willie Nelson. Nobody represents the mystic swirl of New Orleans music like Dr. John.
