Free health screenings at the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival

PORTLAND, Ore. (June 17, 2008) — How’s your hearing? What about your blood glucose levels? Get free health screenings at the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival’s Good Neighbor Pharmacy Health Pavilion.

Health screenings will be available from 3 to 7 p.m., Thursday, July 3, and noon to 7 p.m., Friday through Sunday, at the Lion’s Club Mobile Testing Unit and the Caring Ambassadors Program booth, both located at the Good Neighbor Pharmacy Health Pavilion, near the FedEx Workshop Stage.

The following health screenings are available through the Lions Club Mobile Testing Unit:

  • Glaucoma
  • Hearing
  • Blood Pressure
  • Blood Glucose (a test for Diabetes)

Staffed by Lion’s Club volunteers, Pacific University’s third-year pharmacy students and Good Neighbor Pharmacy’s Pharmacists, The Lions Club Mobile Testing Unit is air-conditioned and provides a clean, private and quiet environment for health screenings. Staff will recommend health and preventive measures based on test results and will also conduct interviews on heartburn and heartburn treatment.

In addition, Dr. Tina St. John and her staff will perform free screenings for Hepatitis C through the Caring Ambassadors Program. Hepatitis C affects four to five million Americans and can go undetected for many years, resulting in severe liver disease and liver cancer.  Early detection and treatment are essential to recovery.

Participants must sign a release form to receive health screenings.
