Biography

UNITED BY MUSIC NORTH AMERICA

A Band. A Program. A Movement“Blues comes straight from the soul, unvarnished. It is intentional. Raw. United by Music musicians come from such an honest place into this music. It’s thrilling to me to hear musicians who bring so much of themselves into the songs in this way. It’s also very exciting to see experienced blues musicians accompanying them to bring the best out of them.”- Bruce Iglauer, Alligator Records

The United by Music North America AllStar Revue is back at Waterfront Blues Festival, which they consider their home-base fest because of the love and support received here over the six years of heart-filled entertainment.

Their new Waterfront Blues Festival set is a joyful blend of Blues, Soul & Rock ‘n’ Roll.

UBMNA’s July 7th  noon performance is the last stop on the UBMNA “YES WE CAN CAN” tour, in advance of the release at WBF of their first album of the same name which is in honor of Louisiana’s legendary Allen Toussaint. Toussaint had the pleasure of hearing sound files played for him of UBMNA band in development of learning his song.

The album title track, Yes We Can Can, Allen Toussaint’s iconic song, could serve as the calling card for UBMNA. Founded and directed in the U.S. by Amanda Gresham and Barbara Hammerman, UBMNA is a unified professional band of musically talented, neuro-diverse and neuro-typical musicians who rehearse weekly, perform year-round and world-wide with experienced musicians. Tens of thousands have cheered the high energy, uplifting music from WBF to UBMNA All-Star Showcases in Memphis during IBC week, to The Netherlands, WoodSongs Old Time Radio Hour live and on PBS and the 8 appearances during USA Games Special Olympics.

“The opportunity to launch the Yes We Can Can album at Waterfront Blues Festival, our home base, is just perfect,” says the CD producer, Amanda Gresham. “We have special gratitude for Rosebud Agency founder, Mike Kappus’ match-making in bringing Little Village Foundation together with UBMNA in this album project, the first such collaborative CD production from the Little Village Foundation  label.” Greaseland Studios’ Kid Andersen worked with Amanda on musical contributions and mixing experience, resulting in a CD that reflects the joy in achievement of exceptional program artists and dedicated mentors. Financial backing from Jim Pugh’s Little Village Foundation and Barbara Hammerman, Raymond Lavine and United by Music North America provided not only the product of the CD but the experience of being at the respected Falcon Recording Studios with engineer Dennis Carter. Dave Fleschner’s musical direction expertise working with UBMNA producing artistic director, Amanda Gresham serves to translate program performance goals into music reality.

Festival-goers are among the first who will be able to have this CD with 100% of the purchase going to United by Music North America, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Join artists after the July 7th show at Music Millennium booth. CD available throughout festival.

“I love United by Music!  It gives people HOPE, we all need HOPE to survive. I love being on stage with them every chance I get” – Bobby Rush, Grammy Award-winning Bluesman, UBMNA mentor

“Imagine a world in which destiny is NOT determined by circumstance.”
